Fireplace screen for modern walnut-paneled wall?

posted by: youngdeb on 10.19.2010 at 09:59 am in Home Decorating Forum

We put this fireplace in last year, and just never finished it off with a safety screen...I just got tired of making decisions. Now I'm revisiting in the hopes that we could actually have a fire in it this winter...poor DH was prohibited from doing so last year...I'm kind of weird about fire safety.

So here is the wall, and the two options. For each option, I can choose black, brushed nickel, or several other options. I think black, but I'm undecided on the right choice. Thoughts?

Here's the room, the fireplace is on the left:

Option 1:

Option 2 (will also need a metal frame around it, so imagine this with another frame):

Dining room - the results

posted by: youngdeb on 02.18.2010 at 06:32 pm in Home Decorating Forum

I almost titled this post "Is he going to hate it?" DH has been gone all week and while he was out I pulled the trigger on painting the DR. He's not into color and likes things "bright."

There's nothing bright about this room - it has no windows. So after consulting with you all, I went with a fairly dark green. It looks much darker in person than it does in the pictures.

So what do you think? Is he going to hate it?

Details:

Flooring - Daltile Metro 12 x 12
Shower - American Universal white penny round
Custom Cabinets painted BM Cayenne
Kartell e' sconces in crystal
Cambria countertop

Finished Master Bath

posted by: youngdeb on 09.10.2009 at 03:26 pm in Bathrooms Forum

This forum has been incredibly helpful, I am so grateful to all you regulars for answering the questions over and over! I rarely had to post here since the history on this board is a treasure trove. So here it is, our new master bath (part of a garage conversion) without art, since I know it will take months (years) to get around to it.

Details: custom bamboo cabinets (DH is very tall, so they are irregular heights), Nutone medicine cabinets, Daltile Glass Reflections tile, Victoria & Albert Sorrento tub.

Just got my new curtains - wanna see?

posted by: youngdeb on 02.11.2010 at 01:13 pm in Home Decorating Forum

We converted the garage to our MBR last summer, but have taken our time getting the room together. I really wanted a sitting area looking out over the pool and back yard, but wanted a way to get some privacy when we entertain back there, which is pretty often. This is mostly so people aren't looking at what is usually an unmade bed...what can I say, I'm no Martha Stewart.

We drywalled in a ceiling curtain track - I figured if I didn't like the curtains there, I could always take them down, the track is pretty unobtrusive if it's unused. Just had the panels made up this week...I need to iron them, but before I do I need to figure out whether I want to stack the curtains on one side or on both. I will mess with them a bit, and once I figure out how I like them, I'll take them back down and iron them and train them. They stack back pretty tight, it's a very light fabric.

Anyway...just thought I'd share, as I haven't seen this on this site before!
