posted by: dcarch on 05.24.2010 at 11:17 am in Cooking Forum Fiddlehead fern is possibly the shortest season vegetable. Around here you can only find them in the supermarkets in less than three or four days and they are gone.
I find the flavors of mushroom, fiddlehead fern, and hosta very compatible. These three shade loving vegetables all taste mild, nutty, and earthy. There were three of us having dinner yesterday in my house. I made shrimps with tomato/wine sauce with the three shady veggies, baked spinach/cheese balls on lettuce from my garden and apple-pineapple for dessert. I didn’t know that one friend was allergic to mushrooms, so I had to immediately make another dish for her; coconut /sesame shrimps with fiddlehead fern. Anyone of you like Fiddlehead fern? dcarch
