Pedestrian? (Follow-Up #69)

Vampire, I think your kitchen shows a sense of humor, very refreshing.

Plllog and others, so well said.

I have been posting, saying things and apologizing for them, misspeaking and not thinking clearly. And I trust that most gw-ers take it with a grain of salt. I am not mean.

I am a die-hard minimalist, modernist, artsy, architecture lover. But modern is the exception here.

When I first came here and saw C. Peacock like kitchens, with all the corbels, flutes, decor, painted wood, specifically all the traditional and transitional kitchens, I thought what's this? Pretty, not. But the more I lurked, and looked, the more I appreciated and truly liked what I saw. And not just b/c I became attached to the people. I saw what they liked. I liked it, too.

People who post here put their hearts on the line.

A finished kitchen here is not spectacular because it is finished, but because we are seeing the 'before' kitchen and the transformation, through the eyes of the owner. Budgets or lack thereof mostly rule. We are happy for them. We express that.

RE: Rice cookers--are they worth it? (Follow-Up #2)

I use a rice cooker to cook brown rice 3-4 times a week. It is basically fail proof with the rice cooker. Mine is by the Japanese maker Toshiba and has a timer function, as well as different cycles for brown and white rice. I love it and use it more than any other appliance except my coffee maker.

Putting an oven range across the corner-have you seen this done?

posted by: jigg on 02.14.2010 at 07:31 pm in Kitchens Forum

Has anyone here seen or had their oven range span a corner? We will be remodeling a small kitchen within the year and I am changing the layout. I think that putting the oven range across the corner where the two sides meet (L shape kitchen) will make the layout work much better without major electrical or plumbing work. But, it appears that in my internet research that this is not done much since I can not find any information or pictures of this. I know it will take away space in that area, but we will be putting in an island (do not have one now)that will more than make up for it. I have seen pictures here of a cooktop in the corner (Berry's Kitchen remodel), but not a range. Any reasons why this should not be done? Any comments would be appreciated.

Do I have to have a tile backsplash?

posted by: weidiii on 11.05.2009 at 08:32 pm in Kitchens Forum

I love my new counters and cabinets. They are a match made in heaven and made for me. I'm scared that a third wheel (tile) will ruin their harmony....Can't I pick a great washable paint that won't compete?
