I have no idea really what I want to do with this large wall space in my almost finished kitchen. I want to get some sort of picture frame to cover the electrical panel but other than that I'm stumped. How did you decorate your large kitchen wall space? Please post your pics :)

Where should I stop/continue floor tile? Floor plans :)

Originally we had a wall seperating our kitchen and dining room, but we recently demolished the wall. We designed our kitchen and the cabinets have been delivered. We just completed drywall so we're not quite ready for the install yet. Going over the plans again, we realized that we didn't plan out the flooring appropriately. We were planning on extending the tile to the edge of the perimeter cabinets but our island cabinets don't line up with the them. There's no moving the island because the framing for the rangehood is already complete in our vaulted ceiling. This wouldn't be a big deal but there will be seating at the island and it would be awkward if the stools were on 2 different surfaces (Our dining room (& the rest of our house except bathrooms) is all walnut wood flooring). What's your opinion? Thanks for all of your help!

Here is a visual and a couple of options:

Original Tile goes to the dotted line:
currently where tile ends

We could extend the tile out 3 feet (1 ft passed the countertop overhang):
if we extended the tile 1 foot past 'island countertop overhang'

We could use the edge of the island cabinet to figure out where to stop the extension of the tile floor:
if we stopped the tile at the base of the island cabinets

We could extend the tile out by 2 ft but keep the wood floors where the countertop overhang is so that the stools slide nicely:
if we take the tile 2 ft out but keep the wood floors where the countertop overhang is

RE: Samsung Washer wf306bhw - PROBLEM with valves (Follow-Up #1)

Is there in fact no water getting into the machine when the fault occurs?

External valves? You mean the faucets to which the hoses connect? If you disconnect the water supply hoses from the washer, run them into a bucket and get a full flow of water, then the faucets are OK and the problem is at the machine itself.

There should be debris screens inside the water valves on the machine, where the hoses connect. A no-fill situation can arise if the screens are badly clogged.

RE: Will an island hood make my kitchen look crowded? (Follow-Up #25)

Lisa,

The panel is actually a onyx which is glued to frosted glass and then backlit.

The island is about 66"x 42". So it is pretty small. I wish I had a large kitchen..
The stove is 30" bluestar.
The hood is 36" (ebay, made in china).

The pendants are towards the table as you guessed. They must be stepped back from the front edge of the island about 10".

Yes, that is an aquarium which is built into my china cabinet.

We've been very happy with our island range hood, purchased from an ebay seller, jayjuan (Jasmine hood), about 5 years ago. We hired an electrician/general contractor to do the ductwork and vent it to the outside. It's been a real workhorse. I'd highly recommend this type of hood.
