I put hammered copper lids on them, filled them with glass marbles and votives. Oh, and I frosted the glass

Two new pictures for my mirror album

posted by: slowmedown on 08.26.2006 at 04:56 pm in Garden Junk Forum

These are the two mirrors I made for my daughter Shea, who lives in Dallas. The one on the long beaded rope is made from shards of her favorite antique mirror. She had thrown them away, and quickly retrieved them at my request. I didn't cut any of them, just siliconed them w/black onto a plywood base. In the silicon "grout" I put small beads. The rope was from Hobby Lobby's Christmas section a couple years back. On the other large mirror, I inserted a small mirror she had crackled finished. It was originally on a little stand. When the stand was broken, she was gonna put the mirror in a garage sale. I grabbed it, of course, and said Mom'll make you something pretty. Ornamentations on the top are more Hobby Lobby Christmas decorations.

I really like this one. The top is a bell. We made this one last year also.

Quickcrete Mortar Project (1 of 2 pics)

posted by: slowmedown on 08.30.2006 at 08:44 am in Garden Junk Forum

In Nical's posting of "Cross Stepping Stone" I was reminded that I've used the Quickcrete Mortar a couple years ago in making a little church and house for a flowerbed. I made shallow plywood molds to make the rectangles/squares for the house pieces. I put little squares where the windows are and poured the mortar around them. I put the houses together w/Silicon. I mosaiced the house w/shards of floor tiles. They have been outside a couple yrs., and one side of the little house has come loose. I think it was my poor construction, however, not the materials. Need to fix that. I've added them to "Queendom" file in my album.
