I too have an old new/old (1937) house, and trying to maintain the feel of an older home, but also need to think about the function and whatnot. I'm doing a simple wood cabinet hood with an insert.. surely not authentic to the age of the house, but I think it will still be okay! Here is the one I think I'll be doing
