2nd floor FL washer installs - concrete pad

posted by: bytehoven on 05.23.2006 at 12:39 am in Laundry Room Forum

When all else fails and your FL washer is vibrating or dancin' around on your 2nd floor...

... install a concrete pad.

Although the Duet Sport we recently bought is very well behaved in our 2nd floor kitchen laundry nook, adding a concrete pad in the nook has made a huge difference.

I 1st tried 3/4" plywood, and while that did make the floor more rigid, it still allowed a good bit of washer/dryer "hum" into the house structure.

I took out the 3/4" plywood and poured a 59"x29"x1.5" pad. I let it cure for a few days, keeping it nice an wet with a paint roller.

Now the the Duet Sport is nearly 100% vibration free and the "hum" has also been nearly eliminated.

Our family Home Theater is below the kitchen, and the concrete pad has made a huge difference. The same goes for the family room off the kitchen, where I watched 24 tonight at a normal volume while the wife did a load of laundry.

Not everyone can install a concrete pad, but if you can it should make a huge difference.

I wish I could comment on a larger capacity FL washer with worse 2nd floor manners the the Duet Sport, such as the full size Duet.

Maybe someone else who has done something simlar and can comment.

What about this one? Can put dryer 3" from wall.
I just ordered this. The periscope has it's limitations so I chose this one for the linear effect which can go up behind the dryer or sideways horizontally, etc.

Here is a link that might be useful: vent

Since you're in California, I suggest you find some White King laundry booster... it has STPP and will help remove that ring around the collar. It will not fade any colored decoration on the Gi.

Although if the item is white with no color, I don't see why you can't use an oxygen bleach. In addition to STPP, that is :-).
