RE: Does anyone use laminates? (Follow-Up #4)

Lavender, I was thinking about this when you were questioning stones in a previous post. One of the kitchens I've loved and saved has laminate counters that look like marble. so pretty! I have laminate now, and it's got to be at least 15 years old, probably much more. It is in perfect condition and neutral enough that I still like it (I didn't choose it--we just moved here 4 years ago) It is cool to the touch, easy to clean, has no stains, and isn't so loud when glasses or plates are set on it, like granite it.

I do not like the wonky backsplash of formica, nor the front edge, with the tell-take black edging lines. But today you can get no backsplash and do a tile backsplash, and the front can be edged all sorts of ways.

Here's the kitchen I'm refering to--it's really beautiful! I'd love to hear from her how it has served her over the years, as I know this was from quite a few years ago...

Ok, I actually think it's called Pionite? Not sure...but google her name and you'll find more, I'm sure...

Finally, here;s a link I saved on alternative "white" counters.

Decisions, decisions...

RE: kitchen sink not centered with window, issues with 24' sink b (Follow-Up #5)

posted by: hutchds on 01.27.2011 at 09:31 am in Kitchens Forum

I did see buehl's kitchen which is beautiful, and the sink placement under the second window is what i was going for, until yesterday when our plumber and contractor suggested putting the sink in the corner instead. This would looks like it would solve the off-center issue - as even w/a 24" sb we will be about 1.5" off from the center of the 2nd window.

Please see the link attached, hopefully this will help.

I am torn. My husband really likes the corner sink idea, but I like the idea of more counter space between the stove and sink.

Also, any thoughts on the overall layout would be greatly appreciated as well.

Thanks so much for your feedback!

RE: It's time to show off your modern kitchen (Follow-Up #8)

I think our kitchen straddles that fine line between contemporary and modern. Usually we describe it as being "contemporary with warmth" or "organic contemporary" but it does seem a little more modern than some of the contemporary kitchens we've seen on GW (that are described as such), and less so than ones that are quite obviously modern (like rockybird's and palimpsest, and even jakabedy's and sochi's).

We opened up the wall between the kitchen, and what was then the DR (now our LR), and vaulted the ceiling in both rooms as part of the reno.

Wow. Great kitchens! My new mcm house is a blank slate right now, but hopefully I can add some pics in a couple months. Sochi, what kind of wood did you use on those cabs. They are wonderful. Pamplisest, that is a great house! The woodwork and stairs are beautiful.

Below are pics from my mcm condo, ikea and concrete counters, not quite finished. The green was not my idea. I came home one day to find the handyman had painted it green for some reason. I am planning to repaint when I move out into the new house.

LOVE looking at Cabinet Hardware - anyone else?

posted by: catsam on 03.25.2008 at 11:17 am in Kitchens Forum

We are in the completion stages of our kitchen renovation and I love looking at the different knobs and pulls for the cabinets and doors - I think it's because I am detail oriented but want to know if I'm the only one. Anyone love looking at cabinet hardware? Here are my final choices for the kitchen. Please share your cabinet hardware pics.
