RE: Mixing whites and creams - What are the tricks? (Follow-Up #6)

posted by: arlosmom on 07.29.2009 at 08:33 am in Kitchens Forum

This kitchen isn't mine...I really don't remember where I got this picture. I think the contrast between white and cream works well because there are a few elements of white, not just a single one. It makes the white look intentional and tied into the overall scheme. I also love the way the wood in the island warms up the whole space. (I love this kitchen!)

Thank you Riverhouse and Marthavila! :)

Riverhouse, I think we are in the same neck of the woods so if you ever want to stop by and see my kitchen feel free to contact me at my email swlesmis@hotmail.com.

My cabinetmaker is Pat Woodburn located just outside of Leonardtown, I've linked his website below. Don't go by his website, he's a cabinetmaker, not a web designer, but Shari at his office is trying to help him in that department lol! Who did your kitchen?

I have lots of places where I shop, both in Maryland and Virginia, but when I want to stay local I go to Southern Maryland Antique Center in Leonardtown. I also love Cecil's Country Store for newer items, though she does have some antique furniture, Traditions of Loveville (she used to have antiques but is now mostly new furnishings), and Apple Basket. There is also a wonderful shop that is only open one weekend a month called Vintage Source...you never know what they'll have but they usually have some neat stuff and the prices are right.

In my picture you can see my new cookie jar I just bought at Cecil's! Email me and I can tell you more places over on Solomons and in Charles County if you are interested!

I also have a double pendant from Archtects and Heroes and I love it. I think I picked the most unfussy of their models, although it is in antique bronze, not satin nickel. The shades also comes in white.

Katie - the table is going back because it is too shiny and red in a wrong way (can't see this in the photo) - the fixture is lights, not candles, from Restoration Hardware - I love the way it looks, but it does not give off a huge amount of light so I if I didn't have high hats in that area it would definitely be a problem

pluckymama - thanks for the kind words - I will post very soon! - the backsplash tile is Ann Sachs Capri in buttercream - I spent weeks agonizing over it and it matches my cabinets perfectly (BM Linen White) - I am very happy with it ... however, I ended up tiling a portion of my laundry room at the last minute, and couldn't wait for the Ann Sachs (all special order) - so I ran down to Standard Tile and got an off-white subway tile made by Florida Tile - I have to say that on the wall I can barely tell the difference and there was an ENORMOUS price difference! My perimeter counters are Black Cambrian Antiqued Granite - I couldn't be happier with them - they have a matte textured look and feel, but if you write on paper on them it is not "bumpy" - very easy to care for and always look clean

Actually, here are a few I had on my computer- a view of the breakfast room, desk area, and from the family room. Not much decorated yet, but we love the new space! The color on the wall came out waaaayy to yellow, but I have to gather some energy before making a change.

The last two drawers in this hutch wall are actually refrigerator drawers- which work great.

Our flat screen TV is actually hidden behind the large picture over the fireplace- We have really liked it there.

Hi! Things are moving along and I thought I would post some progress pics- about 90% done, but no backsplash yet, waiting on my appliance pulls for the refrigerator (using temp ones that came with for now). I will post more when finished!

Cabinets- custom built, inset. Color- SW8180, almond white

The limestone looks very similar to my bathroom. Could just be my monitor, though.

We used BM Putnam Ivory for the paint, I wanted a soothing spa look.
