RE: Finished budget guest bath (Follow-Up #1)

Love the transformation. Does the vanity light come in a brushed nickel? Also I see that you flipped it from other images I've seen online. As for your shower and bath shower head was this a set or did you purchase separately ? Also does this come in brushed nickel?

RE: Painted Cabinets vs. Stained? (Follow-Up #14)

We have white painted cabinets and I love them. It's true that stained wears better. it's not the dirt- that wipes off easily, it's the dings with the paint chipping off.

We did stained in the dining room built-ins.

If I had to do it all over again, I might do stained in the periphery of our kitchen and have the island/ dining room painted in a light blue gray. I'm not sure if the blue gray would wear better or maybe the dings would be less noticeable.

Love the color of this island:

But in all honesty I don't regret anything, I love my kitchen so you should do what you love!

RE: Do you still use silk plants? (Follow-Up #39)

posted by: marita40 on 06.06.2012 at 05:49 am in Home Decorating & Design Forum

Well, tacky or not, I've got one. It is a corner of my north-facing living room where I wanted and item with texture and height, and a silk tree accomplishes that. A live plant would be great but I simply don't want to deal with watering/mess, especially with newly-finished hardwood floors, and nothing grows well in that corner anyway. So this was the practical solution.

RE: What did you match your faucet to? (Follow-Up #9)

My sink is black and my pulls and appliances are stainless steel. I chose a faucet in brushed nickel accented in black.

Hi Everyone,

We finally moved into our new house and I've been lurking for a year. The posts and pictures that you've all posted have been invaluable. Thank you. My cabinets are cherry with bay stain, countertops at St. Helena granite, backspash is tumbled marble, floor is Cometstone, appliances: Jenn-Air refrigerator (love it), KitchenAid dishwasher, and Wolf range (LOVE IT!!!!). Thanks again for all the inspiration.
