My just-about-finished Super White kitchen **pics**

Our 10wk-long kitchen renovation that began on Jan 2nd finally came to an end 2 weeks ago. Moving into the kitchen has been a slow but fun process and we are enjoying every minute we spend in it. We are still missing some key items, an appliance garage (currently being made at the cabinet-maker's), microwave, furniture... but gradually, we are making this place the heart of our home.

House is a cozy colonial situated in central NY built in the 1980s that came with a magnificent piece of property. The inside, however, needed (and still needs) much update. We ripped out all the (irregular) flooring on the first floor and had them replaced. Structural changes took place in the mudroom/garage-entry area as well as the wall between kitchen and dining room (widened).

Prior to renovations, I had ZERO experience with reno of any sort, let alone in design. I stumbled upon GW and my world changed! You have all been fantastic and an invaluable source of information and support. I direct all my renovating friends here now! Your finished kitchens have all been sources of inspiration for me and I have most definitely borrowed some of your ideas (built-in paper towel holder, motion detector light switch in pantry, stone window sill...).

Lastly, this is my dream kitchen in the home we hope to raise our family in. White kitchens are fairly uncommon around these parts and so far, that is one main feature people are taken by when they first walk into our kitchen. I hope you all enjoy the photos!

Plz show me your beautiful fireplace? please

Thanks for all your help on my previous post trying to figure out a specific stone for our fireplaces. Unfortunately, we didn't hit it. HOWEVER, I'm taking on a new approach. Will you show me pictures of your beautiful natural stone fireplaces? Please?

We will have an outdoor fireplace and an indoor fireplace. The outdoor is full masonry, the indoor is a Heatilator, wood burning fireplace. I'd love to see your beautiful fireplaces, but PLEASE only if you can identify your stone for me! No more falling in love with something that we can't find! :) I'd post this on the FP forum, but it has no traffic ...

I have been lurking on GW for several years now and we finally did our kitchen renovation this past summer. I have learned so much on GW and would not have my kitchen as it is today without all of the help on GW.....so THANK YOU!!
We knocked a wall down between the kitchen and the room next to the kitchen (should be the DR but we moved the DR to a different room). So now the kitchen encompasses 2 rooms. Everything went rather smoothly other than our contractor who died 6 weeks into our 10 week project (very sad).

Finished Kitchen for the FKB

My new kitchen makes me smile. I have to thank everyone at the Garden Web Kitchen Forum for giving me wonderful, practical ideas to help create my new kitchen. I also have to thank my DH for allowing me to do what I wanted to do in this kitchen, mainly white cabinets.
I have lived in this house for 13 years and always knew one day we would (God willing) renovate the kitchen. At first I wanted to change everything as far as layout, however, as time went on I discovered the layout really worked well and all I need to do was tweak a few areas. I needed to create a larger prep zone; I needed the garbage bin to by my prep zone and not half way across the kitchen. I also needed move the microwave away from the range at the request of my four children. I switched the refrigerator and wall oven to shrink the work triangle. My DH and I debated whether to put in a narrow island/ table or keep our kitchen table. We decided the space would be too small for an island and I liked the family sitting around the table and talking to one another and not seated bar style.

Many thanks to the Garden Web for giving me the impetus to ask if we could raise an obtrusive beam (left over from a 1985 renovation) into the ceiling. This beam caused the 6" vent pipe to run through several cabinets severely limiting my storage space. All gone now! This alone helped to create more storage space .We also expanded the opening into the family room and eliminated a door into the dining room and upgraded the windows to tilt-ins.

My CG put an extra я┐╜" sheet of sheet rock on the wall and cut out the space for the dishwasher. We had plenty of room to accommodate the Kitchen Aid and make it look integrated.

Waterlox/Stain Recipe for White Oak

We made a great deal on unfinished white oak flooring.

Does anybody have experience, or a suggestion for a stain (mixed with the first Waterlox application) which would give the white oak the slightly burnished darker feeling of a lightly stained red oak floor with Waterlox finish?
