RE: Island toe kick and bracket feet (Follow-Up #1)

Chris - your island sounds very similar to what we are planning in terms of size. I have seen photos of narrow islands with a toe kick inset all around, and I think it looks too skinny.

We are planning on having a toekick recess on one side because it will be the main prep area and I will stand facing it a good bit there, but instead of feet like you are planning, the sides and the front will have molding along the entire area.

If you do a search on, you'll see a lot of different style islands...I'm thinking that a search for furniture style island would result in a good number of islands like what you are considering.

Here's one as an example:

I've never used Ikea, but Sarah Richardson (designer on HGTV) uses them quite a bit. Here's a picture of her farmhouse kitchen remodel :)

We moved into our new house over a year ago, but we wanted to change the kitchen. It had formica countertops and natural maple cabinets. We bought new upper cabinet doors from Barker Doors in Oregon (we didn't like the arches in the old doors), and I painted them with Rustoleum Cabinet Transformations in black (no glaze). The island is the same product by Rustoleum in Quilter's White with glaze. The granite on the perimeter is Golden Delicatus, and the granite on the island is Golden Fantasy. We took out the wooden valance over the sink and added a valance from Overstock. I sewed the black ribbon on the bottom of the valance. The light over the island is from for $44. We bought the cabinet doors (most of them) prepared for glass, and got plain glass cut at Lowe's. Then I cut squares out of contact paper and put them on the glass to act as stencils, then I rolled Artist's Matte Medium onto the glass with a smooth foam roller to give the frosted glass effect. We are happy with our revamped kitchen!

Ideas for Granite with Medium/Warm Cherry Cabinets?

posted by: maddie_2010 on 09.19.2010 at 09:13 pm in Kitchens Forum

I am remodeling my kitchen with cherry cabinets. They are medium in color. I am having a difficult time picking a granite color and would be so grateful for any pictures people could post or color recommendations. Thank you and I look forward to seeing your kitchen!!!!!
