Here is a link to a picture of my 10 year old 6 foot Kona Coffee tree in fruit. Tried growing it in a South facing sunroom and it never did very much. Tried it out on the sundeck one summer and almost lost it. Moved it to a South facing bright, but very little direct sun, Patio door inside, and it just exploded. It never goes outside any more, stays in the same location 24/7. If you want flowers and fruit add Epson salt, 1 Tablesoon per gallon.

FINALLY figured out how to get coffee to germinate!

Yeah! Been trying for a while, and actually gave in and bought one and...finally, it worked!

This is the method that worked in case anyone else wants to try with Kona coffee beans:

Gently, with your finger nails, pry open the hard outer seed case.
Soak beans (after you remove hard outer case, there will be an inner seed case that is kind of crinkly and looks like it is a little less than half empty) using fresh warm water each day.
Continue to soak until contents of coffee bean fill that inner case completely.
Pre-water 4" pot filled with soil mix and place beans on top so flat side is down.
Sprinkle a very little coating of soil on top.
Place in a warm place out of direct sunlight.
Water lightly every day.
Wait 2 weeks and viola!

I can see that the removal of the hard outer case and the extra soaking (it took almost 5 days for mine to plump up!) really made the difference!
