Hardy yellow rose recommendations?

posted by: gretzky on 11.29.2011 at 12:53 pm in Roses Forum

Hi folks, haven't posted on garden web in a loooong time, so good to be back. I'm hoping someone can help me out with a recommendation or two. I'm looking for a yellow rose that would do well in zone 4/5, ideally without a lot of winter protection. The rose will be planted on the east side of my new home next spring, so will be protected from the worst of our central Iowa winter winds. I'd like to find one that's more or a dark or golden yellow color, stays somewhat compact, and is a repeat bloomer. (Not asking for much, am I?) I've been looking at the Golden Unicorn Buck Rose, but not sure if that's quite yellow enough. Any thoughts on that rose or any others that might fit the bill? Thanks! Mark

Marie Pave'

I've had two polyanthas planted in pots for over 5 years which bloom continuously all season. I do deadhead, removing only the spent flower clusters. Enough blooms remain that there are always flowers on these bushes.
