RE: Best water filtration on a fridge? (Follow-Up #1)

The best thing you can do is removed the fridge filter (if the fridge comes with a filter) and install a filter in a convenient, accessible location on the supply line to your fridge. The reason I say this is because fridge filters are all proprietary, so more expensive than other replacement filters, and they are all quite small so they don't filter that well. If you are just looking for general filtration for taste and don't have any specific issues with your water, a simple GAC (granular activated carbon) filter will do just fine and they are cheap, readily available at nearly any store that sells plumbing supplies, and easy to install. Filters should be changed at least every six months. Some will say they can last longer, and that may be true, but those filters become bacterial breeding grounds if left too long.
