harvesting pumpkins
posted by: foodfiend_gardener on 10.06.2012 at 09:48 pm in Pumpkins Squash & Gourds Forum I do not know what varieties they are, but I have both small "eating" pumpkins and some very large "carving" pumpkins. Today I harvested the orange ones that are on browned vines, but what do I do with the rest? Their vines are still green (-ish) and the pumpkins orange, but we are going to have temps around 32-34 degrees over the next few nights. Should I cover and let be, or cut and bring them into my potting shed?
After cutting I will allow the "eating" pumpkins a few days in the sun before wiping off with a diluted bleach solution and storing them in the basement. The larger ones I'll just use to decorate my porch, and bring them inside on very cold nights. Am I doing this correctly (I haven't grown pumpkins for a few years)? NOTES: <none>
