Armstrong Grand Illusions Warning

posted by: dijid on 01.24.2008 at 04:11 pm in Flooring Forum

Hopefully I can save someone else from that sick-to-the-stomach feeling you get when you've made a very expensive mistake. That's the feeling I have about the Armstrong Grand Illusions Laminate we installed in December.

We put in 500 sq ft in kitchen, family room and 1/2 bath. After less than 2 months, I cannot believe how scratched and dented and chipped it is. It got scratched when we rolled the fridge and oven on it on day 1. After that we became extremely careful. It got it's first chip when my son knocked a locker lock off a table. Today, my youngest knocked an 8 x 10 picture frame off a 30" high shelf and chipped a piece out 3/8" x 3/8" and almost 1/16" deep. We wanted something durable (like the 15 year old Pergo it replaced) and yet beautiful. Now we don't even let the kids play on it.

Hopefully someone else won't make this costly mistake because they've read this.

RE: ants problem (Follow-Up #7)

I contacted the friendly folks at epestsupply.com, told them my ant tale of woe and the rep suggested that I use the Maxforce FC bait stations. It will kill the adults and the larval stage. Sounded real good to me, as now I'm finding them in every room in the house. I ordered a bag of 20 stations and keep my fingers crossed. I can also place them outside once the weather warms up for control out there. Hope it works!
