I agree with Nicki about the roses. My favorite rose is the Louis Phillipe which gets huge, blooms year round, and has a great fragrance.

That's a 6 foot high board fence that the rose is growing through!

You'll want to be carefull with the angel trumpets when your grandson gets old enough to play in the yard. Kids will put the strangest things in their mouths.

A beautiful spring bloomer that does well here is the english dogwood (mock orange).
