help on my peach tree

posted by: blue3too on 04.01.2014 at 09:20 pm in Garden Clinic Forum

I live in california. It is an old peach tree and starts to get mildew every year and the branches get damaged by pests. See pics please.

My question is how to systematically treat it? the tree is not big but is still large enough to make it difficult to spray mildew treatment on it. Any suggestions?

and how to treat the branches? should I cut them away? any way to get rid of the pests inside the branches? thanks

can this japanese maple survive?

posted by: blue3too on 03.08.2014 at 10:47 pm in Trees Forum

I purchased this japanese maple in july 2013. It was in a plastic container and I didn't plant it immediately last year. I am trying to plant it into ground now but am a little worried about the healthiness.

It just starts to grow new leaves now. When I take it out of the container, I noticed that its root actually is wrapped by burlap.

The burlap already rot. There are some small feeder root out of the burlap. But the roots seems to be very unhealthy. I just want to get some advice about the survivability of this tree:

1), from the pics, do you think there is rotten root problem? It is definitely not white and strong roots.

If it is rotten root, do you think the rotten root problem is severe enough to prevent it from survive?

2) should I cut those roots out of the burlap?

3) should I treat the tree?

thanks. I will post more pics in the reply since seems I cannot attach more than 1 pic in a post.

should I cut the wapper on the root?

posted by: blue3too on 03.07.2014 at 09:32 pm in Tips & Techniques Forum

I bought a japanese maple in a plastic container last summer and didn't have time to plant it into my yard.

Today I take it out from the container and it seems that the root is wapper with some material. and there is soild out of the wrapping material.

My question is that should I break the ball and pull the material away before I plant it into ground? or I just put the complete root ball into the ground?

thanks

Dogwood reality question

posted by: blue3too on 10.20.2013 at 05:33 pm in Trees Forum

I am intrigued by some beautiful online photos about dogwood and planned to get one in my yard. The shapes of these online dogwood trees are very nice. However, all the small dogwood trees I found in nearby nurseries/homedepot are not that good. I suspect these trees I found could eventually develop those nice shapes in the photo

I enclosed the photos I took in homedepot. you can see that the shape doesn't look like it could develop that kind of crown shape I want.
Any commnet? should I try these small dogwood trees? can they grow or trained to grown into that kind of nice shape I want?

thanks
