RE: Vertical Glass Tile (long and skinny)? (Follow-Up #6)

We have beautiful glass 2X6 tiles incorporated into our backsplash as well as some 1x1's from the CP Company's contemporary "Unity" line; they are in the UK...but apparently sell here through mass market retailers. We bought ours at Lowes back in the fall of 2005...the glass itself has the color....and they were very reasonable.I don't recall the price...but far less than WZ or AS.

All Lowes may not carry them...and they only had two colors in stock at the time; fortunately one was exactly the color we were looking for..."Dove" which in person, has a very slight amethyst cast to the gray. However, they may be able to special order the other colors (they have quite a few..including metallics...and different surfaces)...or you may be able to order from them directly.

Below is a link to their website.

Hope this helps.

thanks for the shoutout, mindstorm!

They are lovely tiles, and those pics were a big inspiration of mine! Although I agonized over those lovely WZ Roku tiles vertically for weeks, I ended up using a slightly different glass tile from WZ (Weave, 1"x4" in Equator) in a horizontal running bond pattern. Pics are below.

My WZ rep ultimately steered me away from the Roku for a couple of reasons. First, the color is not actually in the glass-- the glass is clear, and the color is on the backing. We decided that colored glass would install and wear better, thus we went with the Weave. Also, we wanted more a matte finish, and the weave had a very subtle iridescence to it that to me made it more visually interesting.

Up until the last minute of installation, I wanted to lay the tiles vertically. But, layout concerns in a couple of tricky spots, and the fact that the backplash is a intrinsically a horizontal space, I went with the safer choice of a horizonal install. Perhaps you will be more adventurous than I-- definitely let us know if you use them. Good luck!

Walker Zanger ... look at pictures 4 and 5 at this link. The tiles are WZ's Roku series and are about 1.5" x 6" long. Also look at CallieandKarin's lovely kitchen - I believe she's used the same line.

If you look at the online catalog at the WZ website - pages 208-211 list all the sizes on these tiles and the colors you can get.

Good luck
