Small things that get forgotten

posted by: Laura12 on 04.11.2012 at 06:01 pm in Building a Home Forum

I keep hearing that most people find that there are small things that they didnt think about until after they finished construction that they wish they would have added into their build, and I was curious if all of you would like to help me to compile a list for all of us to consider during planning!

So far I have
- Plugs in kitchen pantry for charging, or for items that may end up living there
- Full size broom cupboard in pantry or laundry room to hide all the cleaning items away from sight.
- Solar tubes in areas that dont get natural sunlight
- Prewire security system
- Run wire and prepare roof for future solar
- Central Vac with vac pans

Any others to add?

RE: Is ClearShield shower protector worth it? (Follow-Up #11)

Thanks Athensmom! I've ordered some Clean-X and will give it a try.

Wish I'd heard of the factory applied protectants earlier. I have to get down on my hands & knees inside the shower - with the doors closed - in order to be able to reach all the glass. (The shower doors slide to the side so they block part of the glass walls when open.) Get up and down in that confined space can be a bit tricky. LOL! To save myself from having to do it, I would definitely have sprung for another $150 for the factory applied ClearShield if I had such things existed.

Live and Learn. SIGH...

During framing have a pest line installed, with a stub out (brand name is Taexx). A small tube is run all the way around the perimeter of the home through the framing. A stub out is installed connected to the tubing so that pest control companies can connect and spray inside the walls. I had this done on a previous home and had zero problem with bugs, spiders, termites and the like

Here is a link that might be useful: Taexx
