Winter Garden

posted by: Galasoneth on 12.02.2013 at 01:23 pm in Vegetable Gardening Forum

I am wanting to get some clarification on winter gardens. Can you basically plant winter vegetables anytime in the winter? I know plants need to have a certain soil temp to germinate but I am planning on starting all my seeds indoors.

Transplanting Tree

posted by: Galasoneth on 07.20.2013 at 04:47 pm in Plant Propagation Forum

I have successfully started some trees from Scions cut earlier this year. I ended up with about 3 per pot. Wondering when I can transplant them to bigger pots. Right now they are the right size to transplant. I know the best time for transplanting stuff is when they are dormant. But all my stuff is outgrowing there pots. Any thoughts?

plants seem to stop growing

posted by: slimak on 07.13.2013 at 08:58 am in Growing from Seed Forum

I'm growing few vegetable plants from seed under lights and after transplanting the sprouts into their own individual pots 6days ago they seemed to stop growing. They're not dying but just are not getting any bigger than they were. Can someone tell me what could be wrong and what I have to do to get them growing again?

vegetable seeds wont germinate S. Texas

posted by: jimigunne on 07.15.2013 at 03:45 am in Growing from Seed Forum

I am on country property. Near Mathis Tx. south of San Antonio. Temps. here for the highs are often over 100. One day a few days ago was it was 115 deg. in the shade! I am trying to germinate a variety of vegetables for fall crop. I cannot get even seeds like watermelon; cucumber; squash to germinate. I use the 2in. 6-paks ---deep--- and the medium is 50-50 peat moss and vermiculite. The flats are kept under a large carport. No direct sun. To keep them moist I water once a day. I use quality fresh seeds. What am I doing wrong? I MUST get seeds started this mo. to have fall crops. Thanks. Jim

I am approximately at the last frost date. I typically dont plant till the last week of april. What are your thoughts on starting tomatos now? I started some 6 weeks ago but they didnt turn out so well cause im experimenting with making my own starting mix.
