Finished Rustic Kitchen! (one photo prelim :-)

posted by: jenny_from_the_block on 12.07.2012 at 04:51 pm in Kitchens Forum

I've spent so much time here, I feel weirdly guilty for having a close-to-finished kitchen and not sharing any photos :-)
So here is one I took last night. (I need to use a real camera next time and not phone-camera)
I'm not posting all of it because we still have a few small items left to do (a few bits of baseboard and trim out the pantry doors, some more under-shelf lighting). Going at our speed it may take months to get that done!

RE: Marble slab backsplash question (Follow-Up #2)

Hi Ccdip,

I also have a 3cm marble slab b-splash. I learned during my reno that as live wire says, it's really important for the range door to be free and clear of the cabinets--in other words, it's proper for the cabinets to be flush with the "body" of the range, and for the door to project out.

I think you can see that in the first pic below.

Also, I did build extra deep cabinets for storage space. I also included below a pic of the strip of marble behind my range, between the range and marble b-splash.

Finished Kitchen - 20 pounds of sand in a 10 pound bucket

Hi,
Not sure if you remember last spring when I was working on the layout of my kitchen... super long list of stuff I had to get in there and a very challenging floorplan with a chimney and two staircases to work around.

You were all so helpful during that time and more recently too with lighting decisions.

My number one priority was seating for four and also being able to have the kids work with me - the peninsula allows both of those and it is working out SO well. I also love having so much more natural light coming in with two new windows (although the windows mean less wall cabinet space but I love having the light so I would still opt for this).

Still waiting on a glass door and draw from the cabinet maker.Still need backsplash, am thinking of something unique from artistic tile since I only have one wall of backsplash. Still need curtains and light fixtures are on backorder till October 8th.Thanks to all who helped me along the way.Michelle

kitchen lights are going in!!!

So very long story short - we've had some issues getting our house reno done and it's been a very slow process since we moved into our house in February. Today our electrician is putting up our light fixtures (we've had temporary bulbs in the house for months) and I almost started to cry when I saw the pendant lights begin to be put in!! I've had my fixtures bought, paid for, but stuck in boxes since early March. Anyway, just wanted to share as it couldn't feel better to have some of the details finally get wrapped up. After fixtures will be backsplash and then I'll be posting some pics :) Thanks so much to everyone and for just being a place I can come to and know that we're not alone in what has turned out to be a very stressful and emotionally taxing process.

For inset, the standard gap all around is 3/32" - about the width of a nickel.
